Petition summary and background
An application for a premises licence has been submitted to Tower Hamlets Licensing for Costfix 80 Commercial Street E1 6LY (currently displaying sign for RNT jeans) as follows: Sale of Alcohol/Off Licence Mon – Sun 09am – midnight.
80 Commercial Street is an inappropriate location for an off licence, close to the night club Public Life which is a notorious source of nuisance and ASB. Club goers already cause trouble by exiting from the club, buying alcohol and drinking in the surrounding area. 80 Commercial Street is also near Christ Church Gardens, routinely used by rough sleepers and street drinkers with alcohol addiction problems. It is also close to Christ Church itself, where groups of students congregate drinking alcohol and causing a disturbance.
An off licence in this area will only encourage street drinking, and exacerbate the resulting public nuisance for those of us who live and work in Spitalfields.
